Tourism in Thailand

1 09 2008

Welcome to “The Land of Smiles.” Thailand got its nickname from the national character of its warm and gracious people, who greet visitors – especially destination wedding couples! – with open arms. And this is not a calculated posture for the benefit of tourists. After all, the Thai people have a rich tradition of international tourism, and visitors enjoy the very best in eco-tourism lodges, spa resorts, meditation centers, and rich national land preserves. Overall, Thailand is a wonderful setting for an Asian wedding experience. From the internationally renowned canals of Bangkok, to the colorful bazaars of Chiang-Mai, there’s always excitement around every corner, including safaris, kayak excursions, visits to mystical religious shrines– even trips to sapphire mines!
So, whatever grabs your fancy, whether it’s a mesmerizing tour of legendary wats (Buddhist temples), a stroll through a festive street fair, or the beautiful beaches of southern Thailand – you will truly find all that you seek in this tranquil, welcoming and warm hearted Asian wedding destination.
Without a doubt, the best time to plan your destination wedding in Thailand is from February to March, when the weather is dry and warm (but not too hot), and the beaches are delightful. Even at the peak tourist months it is easy to leave crowds behind in Thailand, and find your own corner of this island paradise.

Bangkok, known as “Krungthep” which means the City of Angels. Major tourism attractions include glittering Buddhist temples, the grant palaces, timeless river scenes, an almost legendary nightlife, and numerous air-conditioned shopping centers.

Pattaya, 147 km. southeast of Bangkok, features a wonderful natural bay and to the south a long, sandy beach known as Jomtien, offshore are more than a dozen islands like Koh Samet. Pattaya also offer a rich and colorful nightlife.

Krabi Province

has long been a favourite destination for discerning travellers wishing to get away from the crowds. In fact, Krabi has everything that other destinations trumpet, albeit delivered in a more discreet manner. Krabi’s coasts have a double whammy in that they are lined with impressive limestone outcrops ideal for rock climbing and the sea is a translucent green, unique to this area.
While Ao Nang is party central and home to many hotels and a vibrant nightlife scene, Krabi Town retains its provincial feel and is frequented more by backpackers wishing to use the many guesthouses as base camp.

Phuket is For many, the main incentive to spend a holiday in Phuket is the incredibly wide reach of activities the island has to offer. Not only that, but with an encyclopaedia-long list of hotels and accommodation as well as startling scenery and seascapes, Phuket is a dream destination.
The island’s west coast has long been the ‘tourism side’ of the island, but nowadays the east coast and even some inland districts have been developed with new resorts springing up all the time. In spite of this, Phuket never feels crowded because of its size and pockets of tranquillity can easily be found.

Hua Hin is a district in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province located 295 kilometers south of Bangkok and 90 kilometers from the provincial capital. It boasts a large market, and is full of food and souvenir shops as well as hotels. Beaches are located in the east of the province, and the main pier is on Highway No.4 at km.232. The beach at Hua Hin is 5 kilometers long, and full of white sand and clear water, ideal for swimming.

While Cha-am is a district in Phetchaburi, Cha-am Beach is beautiful as neighboring Hua Hin Beach. Located approximately 163 kilometers from Bangkok, 40 kilometers south of Phetchaburi and 20 north of Hua Hin.

And Pranburi located some 30 kilometers south of Hua Hin. There are several beach resorts in peaceful atmosphere.

Located on the sunrise side of the Gulf of Thailand, Cha-am and Hua Hin are quiet relaxed coastal towns, perfect for family vacations. In contrast to Pattaya, across the Gulf, these sister resorts lack the bustle of an international playground and instead afford a quiet escape.

Both resorts boast long uncluttered beaches, while Hua Hin, larger than Cha-am, has the added attraction of a traditional fishing port. Neither place attempts to imitate the international scene and are content with an enduring Thai identity. Hua Hin, incidentally, is Thailand’s oldest beach resort, enjoying a vogue among Thai royalty and aristocracy since the 1920s.

The main joys of both resorts are a peaceful time lazing on the beach soaking up the tropical sunshine, the fun of a variety of water sports and a delight in relishing some excellent seafood dining.
